For any fruits diet or fruit cleanse diet to be truly effective for each individual, first of all let me re-iterate and again place emphasis on the fact that it’s very important that you research as much as possible before running off and trying a new diet. Even the best diet, or most famous, may cause a negative reaction for your body and system. So always research as much as possible, seek counsel from a natural doctor or natural health care or integrative medicine professional. Having mentioned that vital point again, in this article I’d like to take some time to focus on an issue that is on the hearts and minds of many women today, and that is breast health. As women, we are continually bombarded with news of breast cancer whether it is chemo-therapy, radiation and its harrowing effect on the human body, or mastectomy, or the worst case scenario, dying from breast cancer. Here I’d like to include some information on how a good fruits diet, along with other suggested foods, and lifestyle changes can help a woman to be more proactive with her breast health.

Recommended Fruits and Fruit Diet

I recently happened upon the website of Dr. J.E. Williams, a medical doctor who has pioneered groundbreaking work in integrative medicine, natural healing and ethnobotanical research. He’s authored several books on the subject, including the titles, Viral Immunity and Beating the Flu.

Through his research he has found that particular fruits promote good breast health. Of course, most of us know that an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure, or rather than sticking a hospital at the bottom of the cliff, build a fence at the top, right?! So, we want to do everything we can to keep our health up, and our immune systems functioning properly. The article by Dr. Williams discusses dietary changes, and the necessary fruit to help protect breast health; focusing on PRO-active, preventative measures.

Dr. Williams encourages everyone (not just women) to eat a 10-12 serving, whole, preferably organic, non-GMO (genetically modified) fruits and veggies diet. Here are some of his preventative measures in a nutshell, although they focus on breast health in particular the advice is also sound for any type of cancer prevention.

Watch your salt/sodium intake and water retention

Stop eating trans-fats

Limit intake of red meats and milk; eating organic yoghurt and kefir is good

Include wild-caught salmon & deep water halibut (wild-caught reduces inflammation)

Limit caffeine products

Include plenty of cruciferous veggies such as: spinach, cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, kale, collards, even mushrooms…AND

EAT MORE CITRUS FRUITS! Choose: Oranges, Limes, and tangelos. Watch out for grapefruit though as it contains a substance that may interfere with the body being able to metabolize estrogen.

Fruits Diet and Additional Lifestyle Changes

The addition of a high fruits diet must include some lifestyle changes, as simply eating a diet high in the right types of fruit will not keep a person healthy. Our body and entire nervous system is whole, and operates as one. Any area where we are off the beam in our lives can affect the whole system, thus the term, holistic. So, in addition to focusing on a fruit and vegetable diet, consider these changes as well:

Get sunlight or exposure for 2 hours (vitamin D)

Exercise daily, whether walking, swimming or a routine workout

Avoid/limit alcohol and smoking; Get plenty of SLEEP

Take time to relax in nature

Make and take time friends and loved ones

Lose weight if necessary; keep a healthy weight for your body and frame

In this article let’s talk a bit about being more practical and less overly consumed with following the latest crazes and fads in health foods, fruit and salad diet options, and dietary choices. As people it’s a very real tendency to easily get over-worked up about things, this can easily happen in the case of wanting to become healthier and choose better dietary choices. Actually, we can drive ourselves crazy when becoming over-consumer or compulsive about our diet and that can also work again us. I discovered this when I went on a total fruit-only diet for a number of months and most of my top teeth and molars became loose and infected. I clearly went to the extreme, and ended out eliminating important foods in my diet that created a new threat. So, I learned to experiment, do the research and be practical.

Exclusively Fruits Diet vs Inclusive Fruit and Veggie Diet Plus

Eating a high fruit and vegetable diet, along with the research I’ve read from a number of natural doctors and health-food advocates, is possible if done correctly. If the diet is not suitable for you, and your body needs particular nutrients that aren’t found in fruits and vegetables alone, then at least consider upping your vegetable and fruit intake for your health.

In case you haven’t yet had the opportunity to watch the latest docu-film Forks Over Knives, I would suggest you do so. Not only will this film be an eye-opener for you, but it’s an educational experience that might help you have more conviction about altering any of your current dietary choices. The docu-film presents some leading health experts, natural doctors, who discuss in layman’s terms the scientific evidences for high fruit and veggie diet choices. The fact is that the western diet consumes far too much dairy and meat. The film presents a case for healthful fruits and vegetables diets, better nutrition & diet overall, as the prevention and cure to most of today’s illnesses. You’ll begin to think twice before you quickly run to the pharmacy, or opt only for popping pills to treat your illness.

Questions to Ask Yourself:

Am I eating too much meat?

Am I eating the right uncooked, raw fruits and vegetables?

What’s my stress level? Am I getting enough exercise, sleep, down-time?

If the answers to any of these questions is “No”, or “I don’t think so”, or “I’m not sure”, then it’s time to consider changes.

How to find the Best Diet for You?

Experiment

Research

Be practical

Those are some of my own personal guidelines for sifting through the haze of diets and finding the best and most healthful fruit and salad diet choices. You have to experiment and listen to your own body to know what it needs and what fuels it. Next, do the research. Look into a variety of natural health-food nutritionists and doctors; find out what the experts agree on. There are plenty of books and websites that are chock-full of information that will serve you, educate you and help you understand what your body needs nutrient-wise. Last, be practical and prudent. You also have to add your own inherent common sense and innate intelligence in life, that’s a given. Don’t jump off the deep-end when considering fruit and veggie diets, try things in moderation, discern and choose what works for you; stick to the basics and not the latest crazes or fads.

In this article we’ll discuss some specific vegetables and how they benefit you. By now we have covered various diets, including some on rave or fad weight-loss diets, and the importance of detoxification diets and how to detox our bodies from accumulated heavy toxic overload. In this article, we’ll look at the fruit diet plan, and fruit and vegetable diet with particular emphasis on the specific vegetables and fruits that will protect your body from disease and how they accomplish this.

Why a Vegetable and Fruit Diet helps Protect against Cancers

We know from our natural health proponents, doctors and scientific community that all cancer begins when the body’s immune system is suppressed. What that means is that it’s a deficiency disease. Surprised? Well, there are many contributing factors, but the main point I want to emphasize is that when the body does not get the nutrition it needs to support the immune system, or it does not get the hydration which is vital for survival, and a person allows high levels of internal stress in, these 3 major areas are what actually cause cancers.

What are some of the outlying causes that can suppress the immune system? Eating foods high in sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup can be a significant factor, also eating cooked meat, poultry and fish which become carcinogenic through cooking. Factors that can cause dehydration in the body are drinking fluoridated water instead of drinking natural spring water or using a good filtration system for your drinking water sources. Caffeine drinks or alcohol also are both big contributors in dehydrating the body.

The cleansing and healing fruit diet plan and fruits and vegetables diet brings the body a sweet relief through the vital nutrients they contain and the natural source of water.

Choosing the right fruits and vegetables for your Fruit and Vegetable Diet

Certain varieties and types of fruits and vegetables protect against specific types of cancers.

The non-starchy vegetables such as

Lettuce

Leafy greens

Broccoli

Bok Choy

Cabbage

Garlic

Onions

All types of fruit

-have drawn clear links, through many research studies, that show they may play a very significant place within the body to protect against

Throat cancer

Esophagus cancer

Cancer of the mouth

Cancer of the throat box

Stomach cancer

Further research studies find that fruit (in general) protects against lung cancer.

This is clearly exciting news and helps to educate people in being able to choose the correct foods for themselves and their families, and make the best decisions when deciding on which organically grown produce they purchase for their fruit and veggie diet. Any fruits diet or fruits and vegetables diet is very good, but if you want to enjoy even more benefits you can focus on prevention and protection by choosing the right fruits for your fruit diet.

For those of you who are contemplating a high fruits diet, or a high vegetable and fruits diet, you might have questions about what exactly does it mean when you say ‘high fruit’?

Perhaps for those folks who either currently live in the U.S. or have visited previously, have heard the phrase ‘5 a day’ in relation to eating fruits and vegetables. The ‘5 a day’ phrase was coined some years back in order to encourage people to eat at least 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables a day. Today that phrase has been outdated, along with the previous 2005 government’s daily dietary recommendations for fruits and vegetables. New terminology and phrases have replaced the old, most likely in light of the serious health problems that are plaguing western nations such as the U.S. Cancers, diabetes and heart disease, serious illnesses that a vast majority of people living in the U.S. are experiencing with little true healing being offered within the field of medicine. The percentages of those who have life-threatening illnesses, living in the U.S., have exceeded other western, developed nations. Clearly something needs to change in the typical and traditional western diet.

Is a Fruit and Vegetable Diet the Answer?

The U.S. government has now changed their old slogan, to their new recommendation along with the trendy catch phrase “fruits and veggies MORE matters”. In other words, the previously recommended amount of daily fruits and vegetables diet allowance which suggested 5 fruits and veggies / day was just perfect, today tells us that the more fruits and vegetables we eat the better health we’ll have. Well, in my humble opinion, it’s about time some adjustments are being recommended, although this is common sense, but let’s hope that people will take note and change their diet.

Independent, government and University research has been conducted rather extensively on many health issues, with conclusive results that always point to including far more fruits and vegetables into the diet than the previously suggested number of 5 a day. So, with that said, what is a high fruits diet exactly?

Eat as much as you can and then eat a little extra, like fresh vegetable juicing with a little apple and lemon added in. When it comes to recommending fruit juices, personally I like to steer clear of those, simply because fruit contains too much natural sugar. When fruit is juiced, it’s like taking a highly concentrated dose of sugar, or fructose; and this is not very healthy for a person.

Fresh vegetables should be juiced, fresh fruits eaten fresh, whole and raw not juiced. That’s my own personal rule of thumb.

Those are some of my suggestions for a high fruits diet, or high vegetable and fruit diet.

- stick to the basics,

- eat as much and many fruits and vegetables as you can

- eat a good variety

- juice the veggies if possible,

- eat your fruit fresh, organic and whole.

Health is waiting for you, and as a matter of fact, it will even come running to meet you when you change a few old eating habits to renegade new healthier ones with your fruit and vegetable diet.

With all the fruits diet books, or diet books written, and websites available online it can seem overwhelming to find the best one that will actually work for you. I’m a firm believer that each of our bodies is unique and we’re all made a bit differently. What may work for one person might not be the best for another individual.

My Fruit and Vegetable Diet Thoughts

As most of us understand, the body is a complex factory that needs a variety of minerals, vitamins, fatty acids, proteins and fluids (water mainly) in order to operate optimally. For certain individuals a fruits diet may not be the healthiest choice and even lead to serious health problems, yet for others their metabolism is very different and they are able to get all of the needed minerals, vitamins and fatty acids their body needs from a variety of plant sources. Other people won’t be able to get through even one day without a meat protein and starch. So, each of us is uniquely individual.

The thing that does concern me often, is not always which fruits diet works best, as opposed to the next fruit diet; but more finding the best diet that will give your body the complex variety of minerals and vitamins it needs.

What concerns me is the choices of food sources you choose from, rather than whether it’s one fruit diet over another vegetable and fruit diet. I hope this doesn’t get too confusing for you. What I’m trying to say is that the quality of the food you purchase is oftentimes even more important than the specific fruit and vegetable diet, or fruits diet you end up following. You could choose a rave-review diet, but the foods you actually purchase are inferior quality and do your body more harm than good.

It’s Not which Fruits Diet you Choose, but which Foods You Buy

Just remember these important tips and you’ll do well in the long run.

Try to always purchase organically grown fruits and vegetables

When you have the choice, choose to buy grass-fed beef or poultry, over grain-fed (you’ll also lose weight naturally, believe it or not)

Choose organic milk, dairy and eggs

When you purchase organically grown, whole fresh fruits, vegetables and grains, along with grass-fed meat (if you need it), this is the best way you can send healthy, life-sustaining foods into your body instead of more toxins and poisons. After all, that is the ultimate benefit that any fruits diet can offer.

The 3 day fruit diet has many adaptations, some of which remain primarily and inclusively fruit only. Other 3 day fruits diet suggestions allow the person more options. For myself, I feel that having some extra options and not having to only adhere to very strict, hard and fast rules makes it easier for individuals who have specific health concerns or a different metabolism.

Fruit Flush Diet

As mentioned in previous posts, the original 3-day fruit flush diet is a great diet that includes an unlimited amount of fresh, preferably organic fruit; plus an evening meal that includes a lean protein shake and salad. Day one of this diet also includes a protein shake for breakfast, along with unlimited quantities of fresh fruit throughout the day. This truly health-building 3-day fruit diet plan has an important intention which is to take the heavy burden of digestion off of your body and give it a chance to rest, detoxify from poisons and toxins that have built up. Remember toxins aren’t just spewed out from some factory or chemical plant and go nowhere. Those toxins get into the foods you eat, the liquids you drink, the air you breathe, and other parts of the environment.

The 3-day fruit flush diet sticks to a tight dietary regimen that is excellent, as mentioned. But there might be those of you who have a difficult time with that specific fruit diet, but you still desire some of the positive benefits that a fruits diet can offer. If that is the case for you, then picking and choosing or even designing your own optional menu based on what you can eat is acceptable, I think. My feeling about it is that as long as you really do the necessary groundwork through research, through understanding how your own body reacts to food, plus you are aware of the importance of the food you’re eating you’ll do a whole lot better. Just remember to stick to whole grains, whole fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, and then any of the fruits diet options you choose will work well.

The Fruits and Vegetables Diet verses Anything Goes

I found that with my own health concerns once I eliminated:

      conventionally grown foods

      processed foods

      most meats

…the pounds just shed away, and energy increased naturally. It’s amazing how quickly the body heals once you begin putting the right things into it.

From all I’ve seen, average shoppers don’t have a clue about the toxins or genetically modified foods lurking in the processed foods and meat they buy, and that includes conventionally grown fruits and vegetables. I would say, once you get back to more healthy sources, the body will naturally pick up strength, feel renewed, and healing and weight loss follow shortly afterwards. My final thought, do the research, know your body, stick to whole and natural, and the fruits diet you settle on will accomplish exactly what you want it to.

Carbohydrate Differences for Fruits and Vegetables Diet

Sometimes people get very caught up in the weight loss aspect of being on a fruits and vegetables diet and count all the calories they take in. There is more to losing weight than counting those calories. The most effective weight loss, and best way to stay healthy begins with understanding how your body functions and the processes the food you put into it.

Food is the human fuel and converts into glucose. Glucose is converted from the carbohydrates (a macronutrient) we eat. Therefore you’ll need to learn about distinguishing between carbs that release sugars quickly into your blood and those which release sugars slowly (more healthy). After you eat, your body will process the amount of blood sugar you’ve just received by releasing the hormone insulin. Insulin will convert any dangerous levels of blood glucose straight into body fat. That should also be another reason to get you exercising, as exercise will help your body use up that energy before it gets stored into body fat.

Glycemic Index for all Fruit and Vegetable Diet

I’m including a table below that will give you the glycemic index for many of the foods you are currently eating. After going through it you can begin to make more healthy food choices for your vegetable and fruit diet.

Ranges for the 3 Glycemic Indexes:

Slow release: 0 – 55

Average or moderate release: 55 – 70

Fast release:                                        70 ++

In this fruit diet section we’ll go over more on the importance of adding a few more choices into your diet. Fruit alone does not always sustain the body’s various needs for nutrients, so we’ll look into what additions will give your body the nutrients it needs to sustain the vital organs, bones, tissues and cells during your fruit cleanse diet.

Adding Juice Recipes

Since we’ve discovered that the body actually needs more nutrients than fruit alone can supply, I suggest you include freshly juiced vegetable juices, plus a fatty acid oil, such as flax seed oil. Your body cannot properly function with these important oils, so you might want to include the addition of a tablespoon daily of flaxseed oil, or hemp oil to give you the Omega 3s, 6s and 9s you need.

Your vegetable juices can consist of freshly juiced carrots, raw green leafy vegetables, cabbage, celery and beet juices with lemon added.

A fruit and veggie diet can last anywhere from 3 days detox, to 7-10 days detox, depending on what you choose and feel you can successfully complete. This length of time gives your body the time it will need to detoxify, heal, and lose weight.

Best Fruits for Your All Fruit Diet

I’m sure by now you’ve already discovered that certain fruits you have chosen are tasty and delicious, while others are not. There could be a few reasons for that, as I’ll explain. You should take time to learn how and where to purchase your fruits and veggies, since most conventional farms today use heavy toxic pesticides sprayed on crops which leave a heavy residue. These pesticide residues go into your body and they stay there for years; recent studies are showing how dire the situation is and how these residues are carcinogenic.

This is why I recommend you make sure your choice of fruits and vegetables are from a reputable source or farmer’s market where you can ask your farmer these questions, or buy organic produce. Another point is that if fruit is picked in advance of being ripe, and shipped around the world, if might not properly ripen properly plus has little taste. Make sure your vegetables and fruits haven’t been genetically modified (most are not, but some are) or chemicals sprayed in the soil that enhance rapid growth.

Choosing good fruit:

Eat seasonal fruit and veggies

Find a good grocery store

Choose organic when possible

Learn how to choose good tasting fruits

Best fruits for your fruit diet:

Preferable to choose low-acid fruits, melons, cantaloupe, watermelon, honeydew

When choosing citrus fruits, opt for the sweetest

Note: Remember that fruits which have a high Vitamin C content or citric acid will be excellent detoxifiers for your colon, lymph glands, etc. During your fruits diet you will experience diarrhea and loose stools, that’s to be expected and means your body is detoxifying. So, don’t worry!

It still makes a splash, although to much less degree, but is more known for what people believe about its namesake fruit, grapefruit, carrying a mysterious property enabling it to magically burn off the calories. Once known as the Mayo Diet, possibly stemming from the famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, they have claimed no ownership for the grapefruit diet and even consider it inadequate for several reasons.

What Makes the Grapefruit Diet so Famous?

The grapefruit diet has enjoyed success over the years and was around long before many of the famous diets that came into vogue over the past 20 years. Going on the grapefruit diet could be a good way to jumpstart a diet, as it’s known to help a person lose a good amount of weight in a short period of time, even losing up to 10 pounds (4.5 kg) in 12 days. The diet’s success has been its ability to help the person achieving their weight loss results but not feeling like they’ve starved themselves in the process. A person can eat at regular meal time, eat a good amount, but they are limited to specific foods.

Studies do indicate that including grapefruit actually does reduce insulin levels and promotes weight loss since there is a physiological link between insulin and grapefruit. The grapefruit’s ability to reduce insulin levels means a smaller insulin spike after meals thus allowing the body to efficiently process the food for energy instead of sending it to the fat reserves.

The fruit diet, as discussed in previous articles is best when it’s adhered to during a temporary and specific period of time. The fruit diet is a truly excellent alternative that can aid in getting your health back on the right track, rid your body of harmful toxins, and take in many vital nutrients that are rapidly absorbed. On the longer term basis, there are downsides and factors that also need to be considered.

Recap on the Fruit Diet Benefits

As we already discussed the many benefits, we’ll just quick present the pros again:

Get rid of the heavy metals, toxins and impurities in our bodies from our foods and environment

A temporary and safe method for weight loss

A natural weight to return balance within a body and fight chronic disease

Natural and easy method to absorb and digest foods that are high in vital nutrients that the body might be lacking in

The Fruit Diet Risks

Since we haven’t focused on the disadvantages to adopting a fruit diet, in this section we’ll go over these points. Some of what I discovered is from first-hand experience during my own times on a fruits diet, and other facts I learned from medical professionals. There are aspects that can make the fruit diet potentially harmful if it’s maintained over a longer period of time.

- Bleeding gums

- Teeth become lose

- High Sugar or Fructose intake

- Vitamin Deficiencies

- Muscle breakdown

- Loose stools

- Weaken the body’s ability to fight disease and inflammation

Since it’s important and timely, I want to mention that going through a detox fruit diet is not necessarily a piece of cake, it’s serious business and will require a massive amount of effort and determination. Since the body will be losing many other nutrients that it is used to being sustained on, you will find yourself more alert but possibly feeling weaker. This is part of the natural detoxifying process, but if you hold a full time job or support your family, it will be a challenge to find the best time for you to fast. A good length of time to begin would be a 3-day fast. Another fast might last about 10 days. As you build endurance you can work up to a 30-day fast and feel revitalized and renewed.
