How to Start Your Fruit Diet

Starting your fruit diet program will be relatively simple as it consists of mainly stocking up on fresh fruits and simply taking the plunge. I’ll focus in this article on what to keep in mind when purchasing your fruit, the length of time on your diet, plus what you should supplement you diet with.

Before you Begin a Fruit Diet Plan

  1. Think about how long you want your fruit diet plan to last. I recommend 3 days minimum to begin with. Try doing a fruit diet once a month, eventually working up to 30 days.
  2. Stock up on fruit and pre-wash it. Get distilled or filtered water to drink during this time.
  3. Choose fresh fruit as much as possible. Try to eliminate canned fruit since vital nutrients are missing, not to mention the added sugar. Dried fruits are fine, but I have found that preservatives or chemicals are added in the drying process which could be unhealthy. One idea is that you can buy your own dehydrator and try your hand at drying fruit.
  4. It’s also important to purchase organic fruit if you can. It will be more expensive, but it won’t contain the harmful toxins and pesticides.  The Environmental Working Group has put out its 2011 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce. This is a very helpful guide for those who either can’t find or afford all organic produce you can download this Guide for the fruits and veggies considered the “Dirty Dozen” and the “Clean 15”.
  5. If you decide to supplement your fruits diet with fresh home juiced vegetable juice, and a little flaxseed oil daily, stock up on fresh vegetables and fresh flaxseed oil. [Personally, I recommend having 2 glasses of freshly juiced veggie juice a day]

Beginning your Fruits Diet

To begin your 3-day fruit diet plan, here are some additional tips to assist you:

  • At the beginning of your day eat the denser fruits, such as grapes, bananas, mangoes and also avocados.
  • Eat as often as you feel hungry. Fruits are low in calories and fats so eating frequently will aid you in digestion and keeping blood sugar levels stabilized.
  • Supplement with a glass of freshly juiced veggie juice in the morning and late afternoon; and water throughout the duration of your fruit diet.
