What Can I expect from My Fruit Diet

There are many misconceptions about the fruits diet, or any raw foods diet, especially concerning protein intake. In 2006 while living in Kenya, my health took a plummet. It was there that I discovered the amazing properties and potential of a natural and raw foods diet. (Africa is filled with amazing organic foods, fresh fruits and vegetables).

Since then I have chosen a natural organic diet, interspersed with times of detoxing through a fruits and vegetables diet. My challenging health condition was brought back to a state of balance and wellbeing. Your optimal health is the most rewarding reason to get you motivated to try a raw foods and fruit diet.

The First Days of You Fruit and Vegetable Diet

To begin, try a fruit diet for at least 3 days. During those initial 3 days your body will experience all manner of unusual symptoms. Besides the hunger pangs, you’re actually experiencing an important stage of detoxification. You need to prepare for the 3-day fruit diet by gradually including freshly juiced veggie juices the week before, an abundance of fruits, and limiting your cooked and processed foods. Then when you begin your fruit diet, your body will be ready for the 3 day period and will continue to get rid of the toxins and poison that has built up in the stored body fat.

Protein: Myth or Truth on the Fruit Diet

You might be concerned with, “Where will my proteins come from?” Let’s look over some emerging facts on the protein question. The average western diet might be heading too far overboard on proteins such as meats, dairy, eggs, etc. According to the Max Planck Institute (Dresden) all we really need is about 25 grams of protein per day.

Here are some facts on the protein averages found in plant based foods:

  1. Fruits have about 5-8% protein (the lowest average)
  2. Plant foods, such as vegetables, have between 21-54%.
  3. Grains have about 8-31%.
  4. Seeds and nuts have 8-21%.

With these figures it becomes easier to note that we can achieve adequate amounts of protein from these sources. Plant foods do contain all the essential amino acids and as long as fruit is eaten in abundance, the fruit diet can supply those requirements.
